For example, someone visiting <code>domain.com\/about<\/code> would be automatically redirected to <code>destination.com\/about<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally you would use a wildcard redirect when you&#8217;ve rebranded and you want to redirect all traffic\/visitors to your new website\/domain. You can also use wildcards to handle cases where content has moved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you rebranded your company&#8217;s <em>blog<\/em> to be <em>journal<\/em> instead, you could redirect the existing blog pages with a pattern such as <code>domain.com\/blog\/*<\/code> to <code>domain.com\/journal\/*<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another use case is when you need to redirect all visitors to a specific page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"banner-note\">\ud83d\udca1 The asterisk symbol represents the URI or page name (e.g. <code>\/about<\/code> or <code>\/contact<\/code>) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating a wildcard redirect<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Login to ULTRA Cloud<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Sites <\/strong>and then <strong>Settings <\/strong>besides the site that needs a wildcard redirect<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>Domains &amp; Redirects<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under the <strong>Redirect Manager<\/strong>, set the following:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select the <em>From<\/em> domain (or leave as <em>any domain<\/em> to redirect all variations and aliases)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <em>From&#8217;s<\/em> second field enter your pattern with the asterisk (e.g. <code>*<\/code> or <code>\/blog\/*<\/code>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the destination address, optionally with the asterisk in the <em>To <\/em>field<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Add Redirect<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1002\" height=\"417\" src=\"https:\/\/kb.freethought.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/06\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1095\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kb.freethought.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/06\/image-4.png 1002w, https:\/\/kb.freethought.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/06\/image-4-300x125.png 300w, https:\/\/kb.freethought.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/06\/image-4-768x320.png 768w, https:\/\/kb.freethought.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/06\/image-4-770x320.png 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1002px) 100vw, 1002px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a preferred domain?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ULTRA Cloud can also ensure your website is always using a specific domain by setting the <strong>Preferred domain<\/strong> under <strong>Domains &amp; Redirects<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preferred domains behave like wildcard redirects are useful for automatically redirecting alias domains to your website&#8217;s main domain.
